The Gift for Your Kids That Money Can't Buy

A few days ago at bed time, my 5-year-old son blew my mind.

This one really hit me hard…

A few days ago at bed time, my 5-year-old son randomly said to me, “I hope you live a really long time.”

Keep in mind, this was totally out of the blue. It’s crazy how quickly kids begin to ponder mortality.

I tried to assure him: “I’m working really hard to take care of my body so I can, buddy.”

“Please don’t smoke,” he said. (Context: His grandpa smoked cigarettes and needed open heart surgery as a consequence)

“I don’t smoke,” I said.

His face got really serious. “Promise me,” he said, “Maybe you can live until more than 100.”

“I promise,” I replied.

I really meant it, too.

It really made me think about who is really counting on me to stay healthy.

Yes, it’s for my quality of life — but it’s also very much for my wife, kids and grandkids. I want to be around for them for as long as God will allow.

I say all of this to say one thing: Dads, go to the gym.

Before you go, read the above Naval quote again. Now go EARN IT.
